i-UG, the UK’s only User Group for IBM i professionals, is delighted to announce details of its forthcoming event in Wolverhampton.

The event will take place on Wednesday 19th October and we are returning to the same venue which was a huge success last November…. The Mount Hotel in Wolverhampton.

As last year, this will be: a single day, dual stream event with a small Expo Area.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day and entrance is FREE to all i-UG Members.

The presenters and topics confirmed so far are as follows:

David SpurwayPutting Big Data to use – David Spurway – IBM

The world famous Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust have announced a ground-breaking multi-year collaborative programme with the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) Hartree Centre, supported by IBM, to create the United Kingdom’s first ‘cognitive’ hospital by harnessing ‘big data’ and the power of IBM’s Watson technology platform. David Spurway has organised this presentation to show us how this fascinating project will enable knowledge and expertise to be “bottled” to improve the hospital experience of children in the future.

Bernard McCabeEngaging with our audience … and their influencers! – Bernard McCabe – Dreamscape

“Whether we are promoting ourselves, promoting our wares or just communicating in general, the options are vast. The leaders in this media circus – Linked-In, Facebook, Twitter – offer a near instantaneous outreach which leaves e-mail looking old.
If you think things like Twitter are just for the kids, you are very wrong. You only have to look at the level of tweets that all our IBM team broadcast to see that this is now a major communication layer.
i-UG decided to embark on a course to promote the group using Linked-In and Twitter. Being novices, we enlisted the help of Dreamscape who launched us into the 21st century. Here Dreamscape outlines how they helped i-UG and what makes the difference when you engage using this medium.

Steve BradshawThe very, very latest in v7.3 – Steve Bradshaw – Rowton IT Solutions

Version 7.3 of the Operating system has been around for a number of months now and i-UG Technical Director, Steve Bradshaw will give us an overview including some very “Hot off the press” updates.

Andy YouensTime travel with DB2 for i Temporal Support – Andy Youens – FormaServe

As database analysis becomes more and more important for business reporting needs, the introduction of this new function within the DB2 database could be of interest to a lot of companies. At June’s International i-Power event, IBM i Consultant Andy Youens, presented a very popular workshop to give delegates a chance to get their hands on this powerful new feature. i-UG have asked him to reprise this, in the form of a 45 minute session, to give us another opportunity to get an overview of this useful new facility.

Tracy EastwoodDatabase Encryption – Tracy Eastwood – Lime Computer Services Ltd

We regularly cover security topics at i-UG meetings and this time, Tracy Eastwood, has agreed to discuss what benefits we can achieve by encrypting our databases. Tracy will also cover some of the options available to us to achieve this.

More information will be released over the next few weeks, including a Keynote presentation from a very well known international presenter.

We look forward to seeing you again in Wolverhampton on 19th October.
