British midrange specialist Proximity is to hold two consecutive events for IBM i users in November.

The first, on Tuesday, November 25, will focus on apps modernisation and mobilisation. The second will concentrate on IBM i security on the following day. Both will be held at UK Power Systems’ distributor Avnet‘s new offices in Bracknell, Berkshire.

Avnet moved into its swanky new Capitol Building HQ (pictured), which features a beefed up demo suite, this week.

Both sessions are free to IBM i users. The first is a full-day event where presenters from BCD Software, Quadrant and Proximity will provide insight into productivity tools like Presto, WebSmart PHP and Formtastic.

There’ll also be a session on how Zend Server can be used to develop PHP web and mobile apps on the i. Other topics include an introduction to Presto Open Access and a look at how Formtastic can be used to create custom-designed forms, cheques and bar code labels. BI will also be covered with a presentation about Quadrant’s new Business i solution.

Hands-on workshops will give attendees the opportunity to use the WebSmart PHP, Presto and Zend tools to develop their own desktop and mobile web-based applications.

On Wednesday, November 26, attention switches to protecting organisations from insider threats, cyber-attacks and external security issues. The half-day seminar is being held in conjunction with international security, auditing and compliance solution provider Raz-Lee.

There will be a mixture of presentations and practical, hands-on workshops exploring Raz-Lee’s iSecurity suite. User management, safeguarding multiple apps and compliance with external auditors will all be discussed followed by a round table discussion.

Attendees at either event will receive a free Android tablet that can be used during the hands-on workshops.
